Terms of Use
These are the house rules for Olive. They're written to be read, not skimmed past. By creating an account or using Olive, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
Olive is run by Adam Harvey, a sole trader in the United Kingdom, trading as A Dove Called Olive. Contact: support@adovecalledolive.com.
2. Joining Olive
- You must be at least [MINIMUM AGE: Adam to decide, 13 or 16]. If you're under 18, a parent or carer should know you use Olive.
- Give true details, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
- One person, one account. Churches and ministries may run an account if someone with authority to do so sets it up.
- You don't have to be a Christian to join, but Olive is a Christian space and you agree to respect that.
3. Community rules
Olive should feel like a good church hall: warm, honest and safe. These rules apply everywhere: the feed, comments, the Prayer Wall, chats, calls, communities and courses.
Not allowed
- Hate: attacking or demeaning people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or denomination, sex, sexuality, gender identity, disability or age.
- Harassment and bullying: targeting, threatening, shaming, stalking or piling on anyone, including sharing someone's private information.
- Sexual content: nudity, pornography, sexual talk or sexual approaches to anyone. Anything that sexualises a child is banned, removed and reported to the authorities.
- Violence: threats, encouraging violence or self-harm, graphic or gory content, or support for terrorist or violent groups.
- Spam and scams: repeated unwanted messages, fake giveaways, pyramid schemes, selling people didn't ask for, or asking for money under false pretences.
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, church, ministry or organisation, or misleading people about who you are.
- Dangerous false claims: misinformation that could hurt people's health, money or safety, for example telling someone to stop medical treatment.
- Illegal content and activity, and anything that breaks someone else's copyright or other rights.
- Messing with Olive: hacking, scraping, automated accounts, getting round a ban or a block, or overloading the service.
Allowed, and welcome
Christians disagree about plenty: baptism, worship styles, gifts of the Spirit, how to read Genesis. Respectful disagreement about faith is fine. Say what you believe and why; don't mock, curse or write off the person. People of other faiths and none are welcome to ask honest questions. Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
4. Your content
- You own what you post. Videos, photos, prayers, comments, messages and course material stay yours.
- You give us a licence to run Olive with it. By posting, you give Olive a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, resize, transcode, display and share your content in the app, on the website and in invite and share links, to the audience you chose. If you allow reuse on a post, other people may use it in their own Olive posts. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others have already reused it as you allowed, or we must keep it for safety or legal reasons.
- Only post what you have the right to. Worship music, film clips and sermons usually belong to someone. If you don't have permission, don't upload it.
- Mark AI-made content using the "made with AI" option when you post it.
- If you think something on Olive breaks your copyright, email support@adovecalledolive.com with the link, what you own, and your contact details.
5. Communities and courses
Anyone can start a community. Owners can set their own extra rules, approve members, appoint moderators, and remove posts or members from their community. Those rules sit on top of these Terms, never instead of them. Owners are responsible for what they publish in their courses and for how they run their space. Olive may step in anywhere these Terms are broken.
6. Moderation and appeals
We use a mix of your reports, automatic checks and human review. Full details are on the Safety page. In short:
- Content may be hidden automatically while it's reviewed: when three different people report it, when someone reports that a person may be at risk of harm, or when our automatic tools rate it as serious.
- A person on the Olive team reviews it and decides to keep it, remove it, or remove it and suspend the account. We tell you which rule it broke.
- A suspended account can't post, comment or message. For serious or repeated breaches, we may close the account for good.
- Appeals: if your content is removed or your account suspended, you can ask for a review once per decision, from the notification or your profile, with a short note. A different look is taken and the decision is final. If you can't get into the app, email support@adovecalledolive.com.
- We aim to review urgent reports (risk of harm) within [24 HOURS], other reports within [7 DAYS], and appeals within [14 DAYS]. [Adam to confirm these targets]
7. Complaints
You can complain about content, about a moderation decision, or about how we run Olive, with or without an account, by emailing support@adovecalledolive.com. Tell us what happened and include a link or screenshot if you can. We'll acknowledge it within [5 WORKING DAYS] and tell you what we did. This process is part of how we meet the UK Online Safety Act 2023.
8. Payments (when live)
Olive is free today. Paid plans, gifts and paid communities are built but not live, and no one is being charged. This section applies once they go live, and we'll tell you before that happens.
- Paid plans (Olive Studio and higher tiers), gifts to creators, and paid communities are bought on the Olive website, not inside the phone apps. Stripe handles every payment; Olive never sees your card details.
- Subscriptions renew monthly until you cancel. You can cancel any time from the billing page; the plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for.
- UK consumers have 14 days to cancel a new subscription for a refund, unless you asked us to start straight away and have used it, in which case we may keep a proportionate amount.
- Gifts are voluntary and generally non-refundable, except where the law says otherwise or the payment was made in error or fraudulently. Olive keeps a platform fee from gifts, shown before you pay.
- Creators and community owners who receive money are responsible for their own tax.
9. Bible texts and third parties
Bible translations and audio in Olive are used under their publishers' licences and remain theirs. Olive links to or embeds other services (Jitsi calls, YouTube and Vimeo videos, maps). Their own terms apply when you use them, and we aren't responsible for them.
10. No promises, and our liability
- Olive is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it running and safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every harmful post will be caught in time.
- Content on Olive is posted by its members. It isn't our advice, and it's not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial or mental-health help. If you or someone else is in danger, see the crisis help on our Safety page.
- We aren't liable for losses that weren't foreseeable, for business losses, or for what other members do. If we are liable to you, our total liability is limited to the greater of £100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. Leaving, and us ending things
You can leave any time: Settings → Delete my account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts people at risk, or where the law requires it. If we close Olive entirely, we'll give reasonable notice where we can and a way to get your data.
12. Changes and UK law
We may update these Terms as Olive grows. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect; carrying on using Olive after that means you accept it. These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts.
